Rainy Season and Rainbows

September finds me trying to walk to school between the rains or during them… sometimes very wary as that is how I fell and broke my hip exactly two years ago. Now I try to wait or I am lucky enough to get to school before the deluge of downpours that happen almost daily and sometimes several times a day… the upside everything is lush and soooo green and many days we are blessed with rainbows, this one during lunch break.

We had a slightly controversial chalk project one Friday where the students created a giant Rainbow to represent unity and inclusiveness without prejudice of peoples backgrounds and choices… interpreted by some as pro gay/lesbian but I thought it was an amazing exercise of creativity! Guess that’s the old Art Teacher in me. Then again it rained all day Saturday so the Rainbow that was offensive to some and beautiful to others vanished just as rainbows do leaving only memories of their beauty.

May all your days be filled with Rainbows and Reflections
Many blessings from Thailand

The Bangkok Beat

With August ending and September beginning  it was time for my birthday celebrations to end… Ok-ok, one last fun weekend in Bangkok!  I hadn’t been to Chatuchak Weekend Market, the worlds largest outdoor market for a long time. The 35-acre (68-rai) area of Chatuchak is home to more than 8,000 market stalls. On a typical weekend, more than 200,000 visitors come here to sift through the goods on offer. Its sheer size and diverse collections of merchandise will bring any seasoned shoppers to their knees – this is where you can literally shop ‘till you drop’. However, I enjoyed “just looking?” which almost every Thai shop keeper can say in English!

There is a newly developed area called the “Art of Bangkok” near the heart!  We went to visit a teacher from Wisconsin and stayed at a new funky hotel called “The Beat”.
Inside the hotel the shower had multi coloured lights and the themed rooms featured various musicians, my guy in the room...

The whole area is still a work in progress, but the outside art work and sculptures are great.

After dinner in the open air courtyard, we took a skywalk and had dessert while we gazed over the city lights from the towering Zeppelin, Sukhumvit Roads new venue where attitude meets altitude at 47 stories high.
The next day we found bargains galore at a little recycle shop called “Tokyo Joe’s”  and had lunch at a traditional Dum-Sum  restaurant. Then off to visit a couple of newer malls as I tried on a past love…happily gliding on the ice... at age 74! However, constantly watching to avoid being knocked down by the younger inexperienced skaters was a challenge... not quite the same as in my pre-teen days!

Every day is a gift and it is a blessing to show up for the PRESENT!
